Hey hey folks,

Since it's Ryu and Mine birthdays soon, we're giving you the following options on what we could do.

1. Chocolate workshop + dinner later. About 75, depending on the dinner. The workshop is 45 p.p. http://www.debontekoe.nl/

2. Paintballing + dinner later. Paintball is about 27,50 p.p, + 6 for 50 ammo reload or 10 for 100 ammo reload. Dinner options are up to 27,50 p.p. as well. http://www.indoorpaintball.nl/prijzen.html

3. Lasergames + dinner. Princes CAN BE up to 89 p.p., but it's flexible. See options here, look at the Laserparty options: http://www.lasergamerotterdam.nl/arrangementen.php?id=3

Playing Dragon Age, I get to a point where I find out that everyone in the town died because this kid got possessed and raised the dead and sent them out to kill everyone. He was possessed because his mother hired a blood mage to teach him magic because she was afraid to send him to the circle, where he would have been forced to undergo strenuous training to learn how not to be possessed by demons. So it's basically all her fault.

But to be nice, I decided to go see if I could get the circle of mages to help instead of letting the blood mage she hired (who seemed like a nice guy) sacrifice her for a spell that would maybe let us save her son. I was supposed to go to the circle at some point anyway, right?

So, I find the circle of mages kind of in bad shape, after a little incident where half of them went batshit crazy and started summoning demons. I fight my way up through the tower, floor after floor, until I run into a sloth demon who hypnotizes the whole party and traps us in a nightmare. Which I escape from, almost instantly, only to find myself trapped in the fade. To escape from the fade, I have to go on this huge long sidequest, solo.

Two hours later, I'm about halfway done and get stuck on this one room where six mages fricasee me instantly before I can do anything. After dozens and dozens of tries, I manage to run away enough to enough lyrium veins to survive the combat, get the golem form, and then use the cheese of golem form transformation to fight through the rest of the dreams, free my party, and get back to the mage tower, where I climb a bunch more floors and eventually kill off the boss, freeing the surviving mages... er, the surviving mage. Only one survived. All that for ONE FRICKING MAGE!

Well, actually, he was the one mage the templars would beleive when he said that the *other* mages I'd found weren't demon-possessed. *I* didn't believe him when he said he himself wasn't a blood mage (he *winked!*), but heck, the other blood mage I'd talked to was a perfectly decent fellow. Oh, and one of the survivors was an evil demon-summoning blood mage that I'd agreed to spare, so we were totally lying to the templars through our teeth that we'd rooted out the corruption, since by my count three out of eight surviving mages were blood mages. Sigh.

Anyway, after all the congratulatory dialogs and promises to rebuild etc etc etc, I get around to asking about saving Connor. "Oh yes! A life is at stake! We'll go right away!"

So I go to the world map to join them... and get eaten by wolves. I saved before doing world map travel this time, though. >:)

Hi! (:

I'm looking to make a dragon that consists of dark blue, baby blue, and cream colors. I have found the perfect dark blue seal fur, but I'm not having any luck with the baby blue, or cream/beige colors.

Can anyone link me to a sight that sells SEAL color furs like this? I check the popular fur sites such as distinctive fabric and CRs craft, none of which have these colors. DF does have the colors in long fur, but I don't think 2" fur would look very good on a dragon.

PLEASE, any help would be very much appreciated. I'm hoping to find close matches in high quality furs.

Thank you! (:

Hey all you lovely fursuit makers out there!

I'm in the market to commission a fursuit of my character, Dingo, who happens to be.. well.. a dingo!

Here's what he looks like:
Photobucket

Right now I'm looking for quotes on both a partial and a full suit of the character pictured above (I haven't decided which one I'll be commissioning yet-- it just depends what fits within my budget*!)

Just a few requests about the suit:
1) I'd like to have it done for FC 2010 (which will be late January)
2) As far as the head goes, the jaw can be moving or static (I imagine static would probably be easier to get the expression correct), but I'd prefer the base to not be mesh (foam, balaclava, etc. is fine)
3) I need the feet to be built on a pair of shoes because my silly self is flat-footed and I'll need shoes to be able to fit my orthotics into
4) I'm curious to know how you suggest making the teeth (personally, I haven't a clue, so suggest to me what you'd do, if you're interested in making this guy!)

I can, of course, provide a DTD (if I go with a full) and any more information you may need. I'm very willing to work with you, as the artist, on this, so if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask! Feel free to either comment here or PM me with your info! :)

Thanks a bunch, guys!!

*My budget is a bit flexible, but I'd prefer not to mention what it is yet so I can see what all you lovely folks are offering first! :)

After Tom's game, I headed over to Jurann's place for more D+D. The party kept hitting the 'rest for 8 hours' button, and getting woken up by monsters, until their inventory was full and they had to head back to town to sell the loot.

Sunday morning, I woke up at 10am, which gave me *just* enough time to take a shower, get dressed, and get out of the house by 11:30 to get to the D+D game. I don't know how taking a shower and getting dressed took an hour and a half, but it seems to always take that long.

Then it was another hour and a half before Tom and Shawn and Ed showed up and were all in the same room at the same time. It's like they had a tag team thing going for a while.

I normally don't do a 'rules for the con' post, but this time around I kind of need to let people know some things before the con and this seems to be the best way to do it.

These are the fursuits/costumes my husband and I will be wearing for the convention. My suit will have a different outfit, though! It will have a dark red with yellow-trimmed mage robe. I -will not- be wearing my lion suit. I have had some issues with the fan/batteries on that fursuit head and really want to avoid randomly overheating at the con this year. Please keep this in mind and don't be too surprised when a kitty comes up and gives you a hug.

So, things to remember when dealing with me wearing my Kita (cat-mage) costume...
1). I cannot wear my glasses with this suit. I am nearsighted. This means that I probably won't recognize people at a distance. If you wave/try to get my attention and I don't seem to notice, it's probably because I can't see you! Please come up to me and say 'hi' if I don't notice you right away.
2). My badge name will still be 'Arazia' and I will be wearing conbadges of my lion character. I will have at least one badge to match the costume I'm wearing, however.
3). I will almost always be hanging out with either my husband (see suit above) or with Fukata. If you forget, or are having trouble finding me, ask them! They will be my seeing-eye kitties.
4). Please do not tug/swat/squish/steal any costume accessories. No one needs my belt sash coming loose and everyone seeing my underarmor. Similarly, my belt pouch will have my glasses in a hard-case and I don't want them damaged.
5). I will have a potion bottle full of nerds on me to give out randomly to people at the con. Ask nicely if you want some! I promote nerds eating nerds (yay cannibalism). Do not try to get some without asking and do not take the cork out while I am not looking. It will make a mess, and I don't want to be stuck cleaning it up because you think it's funny.
6). I will -sometimes- talk in this suit. Please, no comments about 'ruining the magic' because of me talking. Kita, as a character, can talk, so I see no reason not to talk in suit.

I think that's about it.
Mostly, use common sense when it comes to interacting with fursuiters. Don't blind-side me, glomp me, or otherwise try to surprise me. Do say hello, ask me for pictures and give me hugs.
Can't wait to get to romp around the con.

I'm still feeling under the weather, but I'll try going in to work anyway. Being "responsible" and all that jazz.
Though some people would say that being "responsible" would be to stay home and finish fighting off that flu. Interesting how the perspective of what is being "responsible" changes depending who you ask.

In any case, we'll see tonight if I'm calling in sick tomorrow or not. After all, what's better a test than working a shift to see if I'm well enough to work or not?

Wish me luck, people!!

I'm thinking of putting Yubon over on the left (there is more space on the paper than the scan because it is cropped) but I'm not sure. I kind of want to leave it as just Lorena and Ozrin. OPINIONS?

Ok so I have an important question about the way plush furs describes their fabrics.

They mention a few descriptors before the names and I want to clarify what quality they fall under.

The first is the "plush furs"- is that basically a cheap short pile fun fur?
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1048

The next is the "beaver furs"- this looks like a high quality seal, but I don't know and if anyone has used it please let me know if it is because I want to buy some from there if it is.
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1052

The last is the "shag furs"- I know the promo shags are basically DF long piles, but are the regualar shags long fun fur?
http://www.plushfurs.com/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=1436

Thanks for the help, its hard to call the company and ask since they don't describe their furs like other companies, so I don't think they would understand my question.

My neighbours have a young staffy. I've posted about them here before, about how they never have him on a leash etc. Well, they got better about that. They got him a collar and tags and I've seen them (occasionally) walk him out on a leash. He still has NO leash manners whatsoever and could do with about 10x more exercise than he's getting, but it's a start...

Today I took my dogs out in the garden and ran into the guy (Chris) and had the following conversation.

C: You haven't seen a little black and white staffy anywhere have you? *wry smile*
Me: You lost him?
C: Yeah. I had him out in the park yesterday morning and he took off. I came back here and then went out to look for him and he was by the front door. He did the same to Trish [his wife] yesterday evening. Ran away and then came back here. She let him off in the park this moning and he ran and hasn't come back. She's out looking for him.

So... Your dog runs away forom you twice and you decide the best thing to do is let it off the freaking leash!

Logic. You doesn't have it.

Someone found him (along with another dog, apparently) and handed him into the police who phoned them up and gave him back.

So I sort-of mentioned this to another fur, but in regards to making claws:

I was wondering how it would look to use finger picks as a base for the claws since it would set on your hands better. You could then sculpt around the finger picks and so it would be easier to keep the claws in place. That way, if you're say...a Cat with thinner gloves, you could keep the claws from either falling off your fingers or twisting up at an awkward angle. I've not made a suit yet so I don't know how difficult it would be to keep the claws on or sew them into the suit, but I thought it might help to use the picks...

Oh here's a link to show you the picks btw. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/2/1746825_e02deb7e24.jpg?v=0

So I think I'm narrowing down what the problem is. I actually don't think it's a valve issue, since the car seems to have good compression near as I can tell. When I pull the plug from the cylinder and make sure the wire doesn't touch anything to short, the car runs smoothishly. Revving it up doesn't fight, it only acts up when I put the plug back in, and install the wire. I think the coil pack is bad. Going to take it out this week and see if there's any carbon trails. If there is, then maybe I can clean it and reuse it. If not, it could run me anywhere from $150 to $600 for a new coil pack.

My Dremel came back all fixed. They worked on it and shipped it back for free, in fact, despite the fact that it was well out of warranty; apparently they don't actually record when you send in your product registration card. So I was able to do some work on the Sculpey hooves at work, but that was a bust because the plumes of white dust didn't go with my dark uniform. I'll have to do this at home. Instead, I cut bits out of a tool caddy so it could carry cards and other bits and pieces of Cutthroat Caverns, a game I bought a few weeks ago. Fun game, for the most part, but if you buy the expansions (as I did) then there's a lot to store. You could fit it all into one box, but only barely, and if you do it's impossible to find the exact tokens you need for a fight out of the hundred or so in the box. Easier to spend the ten bucks.

And that's been that, of late.

Hello everyone! I cant remember if I have posted here before, but if not, I am Silent Wolf. I just recently graduated college and moved out to the west coast, where i managed to pick up a few fursuit commissions.

I am working my way through the first right now, its a red and tan Jackal suit for a friend, and I am getting close to finishing up the head. I wanted to get opinions on how I have the markings laid out, the eyes, and the overall expression before I proceed.

Out of my fursuits that I made and own, I posess two that I could put up for sale if there is enough serious interest. I want them to go to private buyers rather than just posting them on a public auction site (like ebay), mainly so I can choose the best offer, and hopefully get them to go to buyers who will take them out a lot, since I'd love to see pictures of them in their new homes.

Mangle and Cathlamet

The first one I have is Mangle, an Akita.
http://www.matrices.net/mangle.asp
Since Mangle is one of [info]malameux's characters we made up just to be his fursuit, Mike asked me to change Mangle's facial markings to be less like Mangle and make it become a new character for the buyer. Primarily less black on the face, and probably taking off the white on the top of his snout, and making his eyes friendlier. It will still be an Akita, but just not Mangle. I'd be able to work with the potential buyer on this, but I'm not going to be changing the foamwork too much.

Akita costume details )

The other costume I have is Cathlamet, a wolf.
http://www.matrices.net/cathlamet.asp
If there was any interest in Cathlamet she would come with a few badges, and even the couple of LJ icons that I have for her. Also a nekerchief, and some scrap grey fur, I have very little (or possibly none) of the other colors, though. But the cream on her legs and belly is is DF fur.

Cathlamet's details )

Both costumes have Always been worn with UnderArmor underclothes. And have been kept clean, maintained, and brushed out. They are kept in a room Turbo (my dog) is not allowed.

Please e-mail me if you have an offer or are interested. Then we can discuss things further.

So I am prettymuch really falling in love with Honda Elements. And I've been doing some shopping around and pricing and came to the conclusion that I kind of don't want to get into doing another car loan, and so I just need a biiiit more to add to my savings account so I don't make myself completely poor after dropping all my cash on a used car.

Of the things I have to sell, I've decided that primarily I don't need so many fursuits. And out of my fursuits that I have, I posess two that I could put up for sale if there is enough serious interest. Different kind of question - how does one suggest making footpaws suitable for a stage play? Paws that will be worn by different people with many foot sizes.

The idea of making them the largest size doesn't really appeal to me since I know a size 12 foot is pretty tricky for my size 7 foot to wear and not fall all over the props. And with a play, movement (and lack of tripping) is everything.

Any one have experience in doing this or have ideas of making paws multi-sized? If I have to I can make them fit the current actors solely but it'd be nice to have a bit more versatility afterwards.

While I don't typically change software very often, I've been a lot more experimental with new things than I used to be. So, here's another "I found something neat" post :-P

About a year and a half ago, I jumped ship from IE and started regularly using Firefox as my primary browser. Since then, I've been relatively content with it for general browsing, and downright thrilled with it as a development tool. However, over time, it's gotten progressively more bloated and slower to load/run, to the point where it's felt unusable in the past couple of weeks. A browser should never take 20 seconds to open, nor should it draw over 100mb of RAM just to open, and that's with all my extensions disabled (all 2 of them). My desktop computer is partially to blame for this, but when I can spawn multiple instances of IE and load several pages in the time it takes Firefox just to draw the UI, something is very very wrong. Plus, Firefox runs almost as bad on my theoretical-future-computer laptop, the same machine that consistantly gets nearly 100fps playing Portal at maximum detail/resolution.

Despite my annoyance at Firefox's performance, I didn't really plan to do anything about it because there just aren't that many browsers out there. Going back to IE is out of the question because I can't stand IE 7 or 8, and while I still rather like IE6, trying to use it for general browsing nowadays is like trying to use MOSAIC 3 (which I have actually tried before, it didn't work so well). And, I have a fondness for Google Chrome as a stripped-down secondary browser (it's great to use on my server via Terminal Services), but it's way too bare-bones to consider using for my daily browsing.

While looking for Windows Mobile software last night (more about that later), I tried to check on the pricing for Opera Mobile, only to discover that it's now free. With a bit of jumping around, I found that regular Opera is also free now, which is a change from the last time I looked into it, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Believe it or not, I've never in my entire life used Opera, or even seen a computer with it installed.

The Good
Right away, I thought "This is the most awesome browser I've ever used", mostly based on the fact that when I launched it, it was up and ready to go faster than I could think to myself "I wonder how long it'll take to load". That alone puts it ahead of Firefox for me, and not even IE can launch that fast. I used it for quite awhile, and quickly fell in love, mostly with its speed and features like Opera Link, a neat service that allows the user to synchronize bookmarks and history between multiple computers/devices. And, it's pretty darn efficient at managing its resources, only drawing about 40mb of RAM to start.

Another big plus is Speed Dial, a built-in homepage of sorts with quick links to various websites. Granted, there's nothing stopping me for building my own, it's not exactly difficult make a homepage with 9 big link buttons, but what makes Speed Dial different is that it pre-loads the sites for easy launching. Thus, it truly lives up to its name, because anything else would just be a bunch of links on a page :-)

And, while this is a really shallow "plus", Opera is one of the prettiest browsers I've seen. It has some flaws, but they certainly get an A+ for appearance. I don't think I've ever had a web browser (or any other application, for that matter) with an interface that was both genuinely pleasant to look at, and not jarringly out-of-place on an XP system with the Windows Classic skin.

The Bad
Unfortunately, the honeymoon quickly wore off. For one thing, the majority of web designers (myself included) don't spend much time testing things on Opera, so many websites look downright strange on this browser, and some (especially Facebook, and many sites that use Flash) have broken or bizarre functionality. It's better than browsing with IE6, but after using all three major browsers, it's pretty easy to see which one is the favourite of the people who build major websites. There isn't a whole lot the browser can do about that in cases of non-standards-compliant code, but it definitely has some weirdness even in standards mode.

Opera Link is also something of a disappointment. While it works beautifully synchronizing between my desktop and laptop, there's no Opera Link functionality in Opera Mobile, which was was prompted me to try the browser on my desktop in the first place. Opera Mini has it, and it's not too bad of a browser, but on a device that's nearly capable of running the desktop version of Opera, the idea of running a Java-based phone browser is pretty lame. On the plus side, Opera Link has a web interface, but that doesn't make up for it. At least there's the hope that they'll add it in the future.

I've also had to file a bug report in my first 24 hours of use. Opera has a handy setting to completely disable tabs unless specifically commanded to open one, which is great for those of us who loathe tabs enough to specifically avoid certain applications based on that alone (I'm looking at you, Chrome). However, apparently no one at Opera thought of the possibility that someone would want to disable tabs and also use Speed Dial as their homepage, because that combination of settings causes the browser to launch a completely empty shell. In order to use the browser at that point, a "tab" must manually be opened, which kinda defeats the point of a homepage. In the meantime, I've added a button to the toolbar that will load Speed Dial.

The last big disappointment comes from Opera's widget/add-in support. Now, to be fair, the browser has a ton of built-in features that negate the need for most add-ins, and even has things like Notes and a chat client to cater to those weirdos who think a browser should be a digital swiss army knife that does everything. But, having the ability to add extra functionality is a big part of writing a browser, and any browser that lacks that is doomed to only have niche appeal (again, look at Chrome). And, Opera does have a pretty decent Widget system, with lots of available plugins. The problem is that all the available widgets are AOL-grade crap. Where Firefox has a large quantity of practical, useful tools like NoScript and my beloved Web Developer Toolbar (along with hundreds of knock-offs), Opera has things like an analog clock, virtual fishtank, and paint canvas. Of course, it's easy to bias a comparison like that, so let's look at the top 5 most frequently downloaded add-ons/widgets for both Firefox and Opera.

Firefox:
1. Adblock Plus (Duh)
2. Video DownloadHelper (basically, an FLV ripper)
3. Personas (a skin plugin)
4. Greasemonkey (apply custom JS to various websites)
5. NoScript (Javascript blocker, and one of my personal favs)

Opera:
1. SimAquarium (a virtual aquarium "game")
2. Analog Clock
3. touchtheSky (basically just a front-end for Accuweather)
4. Google Translate
5. Google Toolbar

My point with all this is that I couldn't find any development tools to mirror functionality I have in Firefox. The "Web Developer" category on Opera's widget site consists of piddly "gee whiz" scripts, front-ends for search utilities like ARIN WHOIS, mis-categorized things like download accelerators, and reference info such as CSS documentation. Firefox, on the other hand, has tools to inspect any website in detail, examine structure, change rendering models, traverse DOM heirarchy, and all sorts of things that make my job much easier. I don't know if Opera simply has a different demographic, but it's the one thing keeping me from making it my One True Browser.

Closing
Overall, my opinion of Opera is on the better side of neutral. Really, it's not a bad browser, but it can't fully replace Firefox for my use. I've made it my default browser for general use due to its vastly superior performance, but I definitely won't jump ship entirely, because Firefox has the upper hand in a lot of areas.

Basically, my idea of the perfect browser would have all the features of Firefox, with Chrome's "ludicrous speed" performance/efficiency. Opera doesn't have all the features/configurability of Firefox, nor is its performance as impressive as Chrome, but it's a nice midpoint between them that makes it pretty appealing as a fully-functional everyday browser.

Moving on...
309 pages
158,181 words (and counting)

Progress with my novel has been stellar lately. Just under two pages today (still writing it; taking a break to write this journal), six pages yesterday, three the day before that, one before that, four before that, three before that...
I'm finally in the last third of the story, and I've been anxious to do these scenes in particular because through all the plot changes and such that the first half of the book went through, the final third has kept the same general outline the longest, meaning I've mentally rehearsed nearly every scene involved. It's exciting to finally WRITE those scenes, as I'm throwing the characters for a loop. They're being forced to learn, forced to determine where their loyalties lie, and forced to choose between bravery and submission, with some serious plot twists sprinkled here and there. They must do more than just survive; they have to keep their sanity intact, as well.

Ha, sounds like a tagline, doesn't it? =P
Hmm... tagline... I better start pondering one. To date, I haven't been able to sum up the entire story in a few short sentences yet. Granted, I haven't really put much effort into it, but it might be something to think of while I'm making such progress.

While I'm at it, is there anything that you, dear watchers, are curious about regarding Auran Connection? Questions, comments, concerns... the floor's open.

First off, I really hope I'm posting this under the right community...

I'm looking into getting a basic sewing machine for my birthday that's not too expensive, and  it can be transported with me when I go to visit my boyfriend. Below is a link to the machine in question.

Does anyone think this particular machine would be a good investment, or should I get a more expensive one?

*EDIT*

I will be sewing fleece, not thick fur for fursuits (although I may get involved with such in the future)

Anyone know where I can find some dark blue (navy) fur that's at least 2in pile length? I may need some for a hair poof on a future suit.

Also, does "I'm Stuffed Fur" do orders that are under a yard?

I discovered something with FA (or should I say with some artists) where they will post an image in the thumbnail which has NOTHING to do with the actual image they posted. Now, I can understand this if what is posted is music, story or video, but with artwork, the thumbnail SHOULD represent the actual image.

Though, it doesn't happen very often, I find it quite disconcerting...

Sorry about the rant. Move along.... move along :P

I'm making a new suit that's supposed to be that "fursona" thing you guys talk about a lot, but I'm having trouble thinking up a good color scheme for it. I have a lot of colors I'd like to incorporate but I want to do it so it's not a technicolor nightmare or for it to take a long time to draw.

So are there some examples of suits that have a lot of color varieties that look good, or what colors should go where (like lighter/darker colors on the arms/legs, markings, etc.)

The colors I have are red, blue, light blue, purple, orange, gray, black, and tan, if it matters, and it'll be some sort of canine.
